3. If 3x – 4 = 4x + 5
Col A: 2x + 2
Col B: 4x – 3

Ans :

A B

2x+2 4x-3
(4x+5)-8 { replace 4x+5 by 3x -4 }
(3x-4)-8

{replace lhs "2x+2"by "x-7"}
{
because 3x-4 = 4x + 5
= 2x + 2x + 2 + 3
x - 7 = 2x + 2

}

continued :

A B
x-7 3x - 12
3(x-7) + 9

{ let x-7 = Y }

Y 3Y + 9

if Y is +ve then B is greater

if Y is 0 then B is greater

if Y is -ve B is greater so answer should be B pls correct me if i am wrong

7. thatiparthi : thanks for bringing in 83,I had marked equal bu just 23..

How did you zero in on 83?

my approach was to deduce that (n-5) was divisible by 6
and (n-3) was divisible by 5

then i tried it for 23.It never occured to me to try for different nos like 83

pls let me know your approach

total / no. of items = mean..

so mean of their annual salary = 90,000+60,000 +.... / 5 = 36000

where as Column B = 37,500.. so ans : B

for pentagon, the total internal angle= (n-2)x180 = (5-2)x180 = 540

540-84 = 456

then, X=456/4 = 114

that's why, Col A>Col B
