11.ABLUTION: ritual cleansing or washing; washing of the body;

Example: The old priest went to the lake adjoining the temple to perform his morning ablutions before entering the shrine.

Memory Trick: 1. ablution ~ a + blue + solution; just imagine some blue color solution used for washing clothes.

Memory Trick: 2. take the suffix.lution sounds like lotion .so,i am washing(cleaning) the wound my some antiseptic lotion.

12.ABNEGATION: self-sacrifice, self denial, renunciation

Example: The king's abnegation was as a result of the rising discontent among the people of the kingdom and not out of any goodwill of his own.

Memory Trick: relate negate to negative and ab to away. It implies subtracting something. Subtracting (removing away) some important aspect of your life means sacrificing something.

13.ABOLISH : cancel, revoke; put an end;

Example: "Slavery was abolished in the mid-19th century in America and in Russia";

Memory Trick:1. ab + polish (bolish) : now we have to polish our shoes and hence put an end to dirt over it.

Memory Trick 2: abolish is similar to abort. Meaning of abort is to stop the development of a baby. Thus the meaning "End something" or "Put to an end".

Memory Trick 3: sounds somewhat similar to demolish.. which means put an end of something

14A. ABOMINABLE: exceptionally bad or displeasing; despicable; horrible; disgraceful;

Example :The service at this restaurant is abominable. I am sorry to say but the food was simply abominable.
Memory Trick:1. " AVOMIN " (pretty famous drug) given wen u feel a vomiting sensation( which is an unpleasant feeling)..Associate avomin to abomin;

14B. ABOMINATE: loathe intensely, detest, hate
Example : He absolutely abominated slavery.

Memory Trick:1. OMI (abOMInate)here sounds like omit, we omit the things we hate;

Memory Trick:2. I NOMINATE Adolf Hitler to be the most ABOMINATED tyrant in history of the world.

16. ABORIGINAL: original, first, native, indigenous;

Example : The aboriginal art of India was neglected for long.

Memory Trick:1. A B Original : A-B are initial (original) English alphabets.

Memory Trick:2. see the word origin which means first of a kind.

17. ABORTIVE: unsuccessful, fruitless; failing to develop completely; tending to cause an abortion ;

Example : The abortive plot to assassinate the President was orchestrated by a feared mafia leader.

Memory Trick:1. Relate it to abort..things usually gets aborted when it seems that it would be unsuccessful or fruitless;

17. ABRASIVE: substance used for grinding, substance used for polishing; ADJ: sharply disagreeable;

Example : It is not advisable to use an abrasive like sandpaper to polish the kitchen tiles. Her abrasive temper has made her extremely unpopular among her peers

Memory Trick:1. ab + rasi -- ab means away and rasi sounds like erase.. erasing something to remove away some dirt.. hence rubbing away. abrasive:ab-Erasive:which means rubbing away

Memory Trick:2. abrasive..it sounds like aggressive,which means harsh behavior

18. ABRIDGEE: condense, shorten; make shorter in words;

Example : The President's speech has to be abridged before it can be published.
"the new law might abridge our freedom of expression"

Memory Trick:1. a+bridge : bridges can shorten the transportation time..

Memory Trick:2. A+BRIDGE..well bridges are meant to reduce the gap between something..so abridging..something means reducing or shortening something.

19. ABROGATE: officially annul or abolish; terminate, put an end to;

Example : In the aftermath of such a fierce rebellion the government was left with no option but to abrogate the inhuman tax.

Memory Trick:1. A's (someone's) Brother is standing near INDIA GATE to ABROGATE the excise duty law.

Memory Trick:2. Imagine a boy is making sighs to a girl standing in front of her GATE,seeing that ,her BRO comes & get rid of the boy (abolish);

20. ABSCISSION: cutting off, removal by cutting (as in surgery); shedding of flowers and leaves and fruit;

Example : His toe was so much affected by the infection that the doctors resorted to an abscission.

Memory Trick:1. ab + scission = scissor; scissor separates two things by cutting them ,so separation

Memory Trick:2. It had the word sciss (scissors) in it. Scissors are used for Cutting, separating..
